Hand Luggage Restrictions at Queen Alia International Airport

 

1. Overview

 

There are restrictions on what you can carry on your carry-on luggage and hold luggage when boarding an aircraft at Queen Alia International Airport.

1.1 Carrying liquid through security screening

There are restrictions on the amount of liquid that you can take in your hand luggage. If possible, pack liquid in your hold baggage (luggage that you check-in).

1.1.1 Liquid includes:

  • All drinks including water
  • Liquid or simi liquid food, e.g., soup, jam, honey and syrups.
  • Cosmetics and toiletries, including creams, lotions, oil, perfume, mascara and lip gloss.
  • Sprays, including shaving foams, hairspray and spray deodorant
  • Pastes, including toothpaste.
  • Gels, including hair and shower gel.
  • Contact lens solution
  • Any other solutions and items of similar consistency such as soil, clay and others.
  • Tobacco/molasses


1.1.2 If you take such items in your hand bag:

  • Container must not hold more than 100ml.
  • Container must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds not more than one liter and measures approximately 20 cm x 20 cm.
  • Contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed.
  • The bag must not be knotted or tied at the top.
  • You are limited to one (01) plastic bag per person.
  • You must show the bag at the airport security check point.

 

Note: Liquid containers larger than 100ml generally can’t go through security even if they are partially full.


1.1.3 Exemptions:

You can take liquid containers larger than 100ml through security if they are;

  • Essential for medical purposes
  • For special dietary requirements
  • Contain baby food or baby milk

 

Note1: All the above are allowed to be carried with quantities enough for the flight duration.

Note2: You can also take liquids bought from airport duty free shop or through security on the plane if;

  • The items are sealed inside a security bag when you buy them
  • The receipt for the items is sealed and visible in the security bag.

Note3: Countries outside Jordan might have different rules on carrying liquids as transit or transfer passenger. Therefore, it’s advisable to check these rules with the relevant airlines and airports before travelling.

 

1.2 Lighters

You can only carry one (01) lighter on board and you should put it inside a resealable plastic bag (like the ones used for liquids), which you must keep on you throughout the flight.

  • Do not put lighters in your hold baggage
  • Do not put lighters in your hand luggage after screening


1.3 Baby Food and Baby Milk

When travelling with a baby, you are allowed to take enough baby food and baby milk and sterilized water for the journey. In some cases, this will be over 100ml.

1.5 Essential medicine and medical equipment

1.5.1 Essential medicine

Passengers are allowed to carry essential medicines of more than 100ml in their hand luggage, if it essential for their journey, but they need to submit supporting documentation from a relevant medical physician (e.g., a letter from their doctor or a copy of their prescription). The same applies for gel packs.

1.5.2 Essential medical equipment

You can take medical equipment with you if it’s essential for your journey. The equipment is screened separately and you must present a supporting documentation from a qualified physician, such as a letter from your doctor.

1.9 Chemical and toxic substance

It is forbidden to carry the below items in your carry-on or in your checked baggage.

  1. Oxidizers and organic peroxides, including bleach and car body repair kit.
  2. Acids and alkalis (e.g., wet batteries with leaking risk).
  3. Corrosives or bleaching agent including mercury and chlorine
  4. Vehicles batteries and fuel systems.
  5. Self-defense or disabling spray (e.g., mace, pepper spray)
  6. Radioactive material including medicinal or commercial isotopes.
  7. Poisons or toxic substances (e.g., rat poison).
  8. Biological hazards (e.g., infected blood, bacteria, viruses).
  9. Material in that could spontaneously combust (burst into flames)
  10. Fire extinguishers


1.10 Ammunition

The below items cannot be accepted in carry-on luggage but might be accepted as checked baggage under certain conditions and based on JAV prior approval bearing in mind the rules of destination country,

  1. Blasting caps
  2. Detonators and fuses
  3. Imitation explosives devices, including replica or model guns
  4. Mines, grenades, and other explosives military stores
  5. Fireworks and pyrotechnics

  7. Smoke cartridges

1.11 Other materials

It is prohibited to transfer the antiquities/archaeological materials, coal/charcoal and specific plants, whom considered an national treasuries, such as olive trees, black iris and malool “a type of oak”, references to on instructions by the ministry of Agriculture.
